Beschreibung
This medieval castle dates back to the 14th century. For as long as 150 years it served as a residence for the arch bishops and electorates of Mainz. The Gutenberg Memorial in the turret witnesses the only honour Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of modern book printing, received during his lifetime in 1465. Registry proceedings in the elegant ambience of the ball rooms make weddings unforgettable events. You can buy souvenirs and prints at the castle shop and also visit the Tower. It offers a beautiful view over the Rhine river and the old town. The wonderful rose gardens in the park of the castle in 1988 won the title "Rose City" for Eltville. In early summer they turn the castle into a fragrant sea of blossoms.
