Description
With records and artefacts dating back to the early Middle Ages, the Institute of City History is one of Germany’s most significant communal archives. Housed in a former Carmelite monastery, it is also home to a series of famous murals by Jörg Ratgeb (approx. 1480 to 1526), depicted in the monastery’s cloister and refectory. The institute not only keeps important documents on the history of the city, it also regularly lends out its treasures for exhibitions and lectures.
