German Goldsmiths´ House Hanau
The German Goldsmith´s House in Hanau on the Altstädter Markt is one of the most historically significant buildings in the old part of Hanau. The museum is one of the most significant exhibition venues of the gold and silversmiths´ art in Germany.
Beschreibung
The most prosper time for the art of goldsmithing started in the second half of the 18th century which was significantly influenced by the "Hanauische Academie der Zeichenkunst". During that time the German Goldsmiths´ House functioned as the town hall and was transformed into a museum during the 19th century. Nowadays the German Goldsmiths´ House is considered one of the most important exhibition venues for gold and silversmiths´ art in Germany. It also displays national and international exhibitions about designing jewelry.
