Under the title "MeWe", the Ensemble Modern and the hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt explore the relationship between individual and community in a variety of styles of contemporary music.
"Give us a poem!" students shouted to the famous boxer and human rights activist Muhammad Ali in 1975. "Me We" was his prompt response. This spontaneously created short poem became world famous and its four letters possess a deep socio-political and humanistic message. Now they have become the motto of the upcoming Biennale. "The tension between the individual and the community, which Muhammad Ali already brought to the point with razor-sharp precision 46 years ago, was brought home to us by the pandemic with hardly expected fierceness. Taking his poem as a starting point, cresc... 2023 takes up individual constellations of the 'MeWe' as examples, makes them artistically fruitful and thus illustrates the creative potential that could lie in constructive togetherness," says the artistic manager and managing director of the Ensemble Modern, Christian Fausch.
