Blühen is the second opera by Slovenian composer Vito Žuraj (b. 1979), who has been closely associated with the Ensemble Modern involved in this world premiere since its admission to the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) in 2009. For this work commissioned by Oper Frankfurt, which is based on Thomas Mann's novella Die Betrogene (1952/53), Žuraj collaborates for the first time with librettist Händl Klaus.
