The authentic reconstruction of the last productive ship mill by the river Rhine offers interesting and exciting insights into the technology and working conditions of former times.
Ship mills used to be a strong economic factor in Ginsheim. At the end of the 19th century, 17 of these ship mills for grain processing were still anchored in front of Nonnenau and Langenau. There were times when the ship millers of Ginsheim grinded more than 200.000 centner of grain per year. Later the mills had to give way to the arising industrialisation and the growing ship traffic.
