Description
Set within a fascinating wetland, Schultheis Lake features plenty of local flora and fauna. It is a serene refuge for both mankind and wildlife. The 11-hectare-large lake, which is only three metres deep at its deepest point, is the centrepiece of a 27-hectare nature reserve that is home to great spotted woodpeckers, golden orioles and kingfishers while also serving as a rest stop for migratory birds.
The former quarry lake, which is recharged by subterranean water only, is also a popular bathing lake replete with a sandy beach and nudist area. During summer, the location attracts thousands of sun worshippers. Bathers and resident birdlife are kept separate from one another, the preservation of wildlife and nature being the main prerequisite here.
