Description
The vineyards of the Nahe region are favoured with a very mild and dry climate - a prerequisite for the excellent wines produced here since Roman times. Vines thrive here on a diverse range of rocks and soils, resulting in wines that span a very broad spectrum of style and taste. Top quality grape varieties grow on red rock, quartz and porphyry, and in clay and loess soils on steep slopes and gently rolling hills. The most widely grown and best known variety internationally is the Riesling grape, which produces a light, fruity white wine low in acidity and strong in character. Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are also widely cultivated. Dornfelder and Pinot Noir are the dominant grapes among the red wines. Portugieser is also grown. For more detailed information on the Nahe winegrowing region, please visit the Weinland Nahe website.
