Market square Darmstadt

Since its elevation to the status of a city in 1330, Darmstadt's weekly and annual markets have been held on this oldest square. The market fountain was the city's only public water supply until the 16th century. On the south side stands the Old Town Hall in Renaissance style. Today it houses Darmstadt's registry office and the Ratskeller with a small home brewery.
