Mainz State Museum
The State Museum Mainz is one of the oldest museums in German. The museum's collection of works of arts and artefacts covers all periods from the prehistoric era to the 21st century.
Beschreibung
The origins of the State Museum can partly be traced back to a donation made by Napoleon in 1803, making this one of the oldest museums in Germany. It is home to the most important art collection in Rhineland-Palatinate. As well as Roman stone monuments and prehistoric and early historic artefacts from the Middle Rhine, the museum’s exhibits include paintings, sculptures and arts and crafts from the Middle Ages to the present day. Special exhibitions enhance the wide offer.
In the State Museum you can also find the second Tourist Service Center. Our staff will give you informations about the city and you can buy souvenirs and tickets for events.
The Museum is equipped with lifts, ramps, roll-under exhibition show cases, automatic doors, hands-on objects, and it offers special tours.
