Luisenplatz
The Luisenplatz is the centre of the city. Architect Georg Moller built the
Ludwigs-Column (39m high) in 1844 in honour of the first Grand Duke Ludewig I. Located on the north side of the square is the council building, former seat of ministers (1781), today district council.

Here you can also find the local gallery “Regionalgalerie Südhessen”, with regular presentations of works from local artists.
