Langener Waldsee
The Langener Waldsee is the largest leisure and recreational centre in the whole of the Rhine-Main region. It is to be found in the city forest and owes its existence to commercial sand and gravel quarrying. On hot summer days more than 20,000 bathers crowd together on the 900 metres of sandy beach. The lake is also popular due to its sailing, surfing, angling and camping possibilities.
Beschreibung
Soft sandy beaches, surronded by woodland, lots of water: The Langener Waldsee feels like a vacation. With bathing weather, up to 20.000 visitors enjoy the sun at the "Hessian Mediterranean Sea". Sailing, surfing and fishing are common things to do in many leisure clubs located at the shoreline. The largest leisure and recreational centre in the Rhine-Main region is located off of B44, two kilometres southeast of Frankfurt Airport. It was formed by decades of gravel mining and is operated by the Bäder- und Hallenmanagement GmbH, a associated company of the City of Langen. About 900 metres of sandy beaches, a huge pirate ship to play in the sand, beach volley courts and four water platforms are lots of fun for kids. Large awnings provide some shade from the summer sun. Refreshments and snacks are available at a shop and the campground invites you to stay a little bit longer. For those who prefer to sunbath natural, there is a popular nude beach at the north shore. The Langener Waldsee is most famous to host the annual IRONMAN Europan Championship.
