This popular bathing lake is ideally set in the heart of the city, nevertheless presenting itself as an oasis of tranquillity. Große Woog is however not only a place of relaxation and aquatic entertainment, it is also a meeting place for great numbers of waterfowl, including mallard ducks, coots and grey heron. The beautiful and vast parklands surrounding the lake invite visitors to take a leisurely break from their everyday activities.
All of the architecture on the lakeside is heritage-listed. Some time ago, the former “ladies’ bathhouse”, originally erected in 1927, was rebuilt according to its original plans. In 1994, it was reopened to the general public.
The lake itself comprises approximately 58,600 square metres of surface area and has an average depth of two metres.
