Castle Klopp
Klopp Castle is the city's landmark, along with the Mouse Tower.
Beschreibung
It was a popular excursion destination as early as the romantic era of the Rhine, particularly because of the magnificent view of the Middle Rhine Valley. The picturesque castle ruins, destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession, were a popular excursion destination during the romantic era of the Rhine. The panoramic view of the Binger Loch fascinated numerous writers and artists (including VictorÂ
Hugo, Richard Wagner). The castle has been historically built by private owners since 1854.
Today the city administration of Bingen has its seat in the castle, while the inner courtyard and tower are freely accessible between April and October. A small exhibition in the tower is dedicated to the illustrious guests. From the viewing platform you have a wonderful view over the Middle Rhine Valley, the Rheingau, the Rhine Hessian hill country and the Naheland. Occasional exhibitions take place here, there are regular guided tours on the history of the castle and the inner courtyard becomes the stage of the international jazz festival "Bingen swingt" every year. With the "Restaurant Burg Klopp", upscale gastronomy has found its way.
