The Dippemess is a colorful folk festival for the whole family with a long history. It is an ancient custom and a living tradition. It was first mentioned in a document in 1392.
At that time, the "Maamess", as it was still called at the time due to its location on the Main, was a medieval sales market for household goods. Potters from the Westerwald, Kannebäckerland and Urberach sold their products here, especially their ceramic bowls and containers, known as "Dippe" in Frankfurt, which then also gave the event its name. Over time, these household fairs were joined by more and more fairground stalls and popular entertainment.
