REFRAKTO is an audiovisual performance and installation jointly created by the Danish composer duo Den Sorte Skole, the artist collective Vertigo and Martin Lücker exclusively for our St. Catherine's Church as part of the Luminale 2020. They intermedially embark on a search for our sense of sacred space and for traces of divinity in our history. What happens when religious expressions mix and their context is dissolved? Den Sorte Skole sample religious and spiritual music recorded over the last seven decades. Martin Lücker on organ enters into a dialogue with Den Sorte Skole. Vertigo translates these sounds into LED and laser mapping technology that illuminates the church and connects the musical traces of religion as well as modern technology with the architectural space of the church.
