Contemporary composers love him because no technical finesse is too difficult for him, no note too high, no rhythm too complex. And for the British newspaper The Times, Håkan Hardenberger is nothing less than "the best trumpeter in the galaxy." For years, the Swedish musician has topped the list of international trumpet virtuosos, and there is a time of year when hardly anyone can escape the magic inherent in Hardenberger's instrument: as Christmas approaches, the longing for the uplifting sound and golden glow of the trumpet increases! With a perfect blend of his highly virtuosic core repertoire, such as the Magnificat Variations for piccolo trumpet, as well as intimate compositions like the bluesy Christmas ballad "A Child is Born," Hardenberger, soprano Johanna Wallroth and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta have put together an exceptionally fine Advent program.
