Dramma giocoso in two acts by Gioachino Rossini
In Italian with German and English surtitles
Cenerentola - Cinderella - Cinderella is considered the most famous, perhaps even the most popular fairy tale in the world. Behind the name lies the outward, ash-stained appearance of a girl who is bullied by her wicked stepmother and her daughters. But more exciting seems to be the question about the essence, the inside of a young woman who, despite all adversities, seeks and finally finds the answer to the question "Who am I?" in the course of the action.
The setting of the material by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) was one of the composer's great public successes and was first performed at Rome's Teatro della Valle in 1817. After the premiere of Keith Warner's new production at the Frankfurt Opera on June 20, 2004, DIE WELT Kompakt read: "Can one spend three hours more moved, more exhilarated, more invigorated than in this production?"
