Mysterious wrecks and enchanting mermaids, friendly dolphins and white basking sharks, obsessed deep-sea divers and daredevil submarine captains - film discovered the fantastic worlds and creatures lurking beneath the water's surface early on. The tension between light and darkness, surface and depth, life and death, which makes filmmakers dive into the water again and again, is explored in the exhibition IM TIEFENRAUSCH. Film unter Wasser explores the tension between light and darkness, life and death that makes filmmakers dive into the water again and again.
The focus is on the aesthetics of underwater images, their visual and acoustic richness. The exhibition space is transformed into a shimmering blue moving image aquarium that makes the central motifs and themes of underwater film tangible to the senses. A sophisticated interplay of moving image, light and sound creates an audiovisual experience that turns the title into a program: the visitors are transported into a state of intoxication and hold their breath, just like the diving film characters on the screens surrounding them.
