Opera in three acts by Benjamin Britten In English with German surtitles
In the enchanted forest near Athens, the elf-king couple Oberon and Tytania have a dispute over an Indian boy. Oberon seeks revenge and instructs his servant Puck to obtain magic juice which, when it comes into contact with the eyelids, causes the person to fall in love with the creature they first behold when they wake up. Bottom, the weaver, who is rehearsing a play with his friends in the forest for the wedding of the ducal couple Theseus and Hippolyta, is transformed by Puck into a monster, with whom Tytania, enchanted by Oberon, promptly falls in love. And then Puck accidentally dribbles on the false eyelids of the sleeping lovers, triggering a chaos of emotions...
The musical direction is by Frankfurt debutant Geoffrey Paterson.
