Henkell & Co Sektkellerei KG is one of the world´s most renowned sparkling wine producers. Henkell Trocken is Germany´s largest exported sparkling wine brand and the Henkell & Co Group is represented by owned subsidiaries in fifteen European countries. The Company was founded in 1832 by Adam Henkell, initially a wine merchant, in Mainz on the Rhine river. At the turn of the century his grandson, Otto Henkell led the house so successfully that it outgrew its cellars and a move became necessary. They chose a property in Wiesbaden-Biebrich, just across the Rhine river from Mainz. From 1907 to 1909 the at that time completely unknown architect Paul Bonatz created "Henkellsfeld" a building in Classicist style which remains unique to the present day and ideally serves both for prestige and production purposes. Back then as well as now it is still one of the most modern and successful sparkling wine cellars.
