St. Stephan

The blue windows of St. Stephan draw 200,000 visitors every year. The windows were designed by the jewish artist Marc Chagall.

A total of 200,000 visitors a year prove that St. Stephan is a major attraction! Tourists from around the world make the hike up the Stephansberg to see Marc Chagall’s sparkling blue windows. The windows show biblical figures and because of the colourful glazing, the inside of the church appears in blue colours. St.Stephan is the only german church with windows which are designed by the jewish artist. Marc Chagall created these spellbinding works of arts as a symbol of the Jewish-Christian bond in 1978.
